Dedman College  2023

Jingbo Ye, professor of physics, retired in March 2023. Ye earned his doctorate in physics in 1992 through a joint program between USTC (University of Science and Technology of China) and ETH (Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule, Zurich, Switzerland). After graduation, Ye worked at USTC and CERN (Conseil Européen pour la Recherche Nucléaire, Geneva, Switzerland) as a lecturer and research associate. Ye first joined SMU in 1995 as a postdoctoral researcher. Ye then became an assistant professor in 2004 and was promoted to associate professor in 2009 and full professor in 2012. During his career, Ye was a member of the L3 and CLEO international collaborations. He has been a member of the multinational ATLAS collaboration since 1998. In these collaborations, Ye contributed to hundreds of publications. At SMU, with help from colleagues and collaborators, Ye established the electronics lab and supported a group of research professors, postdocs and graduate students for decades. This group, specializing in detector data transmission, is now highly recognized in the world particle physics community. The circuits and optical modules developed in this lab are used in the ATLAS experiment, marking SMU's name in the largest particle physics apparatus in the world . Ye retires as professor emeritus of physics.
